There are markets in Majorca every day of the week. The markets on the island tend to sell a lot of home grown produce such as fruits and vegetables which are guaranteed to be as fresh as possible. It is not just food stuffs that can be bought from the markets, local handicrafts, clothing and even tourist souvenirs are also on offer. The more rural the market the better offers you will find.

The Sineu market near Inca is considered to be one of the best on the island. It is operated every Wednesday and sells a wide variety of items. It is also one of the largest markets on the island. Although it only runs once a week there are several that operate more often such as the market at Alcudia which is open on a Tuesday and a Sunday. Operating on the same two days is the market at Portocolom.

The markets are also a great place to meet people and interact with the locals. However, the markets closer to tourist resorts, particularly during the summer season, tend to be a lot less authentic and don’t have the same community atmosphere as those outside of the towns.

It is important to arrive early at the markets which usually open at around 8am. The vast majority of the business takes place in the first few hours and many traders close up shop in the early afternoon. Getting there early will ensure the pick of the freshest crops and will save the disappointment of missing out on that really special item.

If you would like to sample the many flavours of the markets of Majorca then look out for the many cheap holidays that are on offer most of the year. The markets are spread all over the island so you also might want to hire a car so that you can visit different markets easily and cheaply.
